What if I told you there is a way to support your current corporate wellness package that will improve your employee retention, attendance and productivity? One that will not only highlight your stance as a proactive employer in the way you care for and value your staff but will place human sustainability at its core. I focus on creating organic self-care habits that will support your most valuable asset, your employees. The key is taking a SMART approach to wellbeing initiatives that are practical, have measurable impact and align with your organisation and the real needs of your employees.
Corporate Wellness and Easy Wellbeing Practices at Work
Human sustainability is about creating workplaces where people can genuinely thrive in their physical, mental, emotional and professional capacities through wellbeing, inclusion, purpose and psychological safety. As a core part of ESG and wider sustainability strategies, it goes beyond employee benefits and focuses on building environments that support long-term health, engagement, belonging and growth.
So how can you as an employer put this into practice effectively?
Human Sustainability for Your Business
I offer regular in‑house or off‑site wellbeing days that can help your employees feel genuinely valued and cared for. Using techniques that are not just what is trending, but
truly demonstrate how your team can improve wellbeing when practiced, the impact can be significant:
· Better productivity
· Increased attendance
· New levels of creativity
· Enhanced cohesion and collaboration
These practical tools have the power to support a healthier work‑life balance, which positively influences work, family and wider social structures. But how do you choose these wellness practices and how do you go about implementing them?
Follow my SMART method.
The SMART Corporate Wellness Method
We all know about SMART goals, they make sense, they have the potential to produce results when implemented correctly. Knowing that it works, I have applied this to my Corporate Wellness Method.
This is how I break down the steps for your SMART Corporate Wellness Strategy:
S – Sustainable Self‑Care
Employees are your most important asset; they give you so much more than just their time and part of their commitment to you is their energy. That energy must be supported and kept in healthy balance. Sustainable self‑care ensures you incorporate wellbeing practices in day-to-day operations that support physical, mental and emotional wellbeing in-house, so employees remain balanced rather than in a state of imbalance or constant burnout. This helps strengthen attendance, productivity, work environment and retention.
M – Mindset
A shift in mindset among company directors regarding the importance of implementing sustainable wellbeing practices within the workplace is essential. Employee wellbeing becomes a priority when leaders commit to embedding self‑care strategies rather than relying on optional benefits that place the responsibility solely on the employee.
A – Action
Move from reactive to proactive wellbeing. Implement a structured wellbeing strategy that includes practices, workshops, off‑site wellness days and education on how to care for one’s wellbeing at work. This may include making it compulsory to take lunch away from the desk, taking short breaks throughout the day to reenergise and reconnect, ensuring employees take their annual leave and having a wellbeing practitioner at hand for weekly or monthly in-house sessions.
R – Resources
Provide wellbeing resources that employees can easily understand and see value in, even if the practices are new to them. Resources should be simple to use during the working day, accessible to all and achievable rather than overwhelming. Approaches that draw on natural, straightforward methods to reduce stress, burnout or anxiety often encourage higher participation and better long‑term engagement. The right resources can become daily self-care habits among your employees.
T – Toolkit to Thrive
Offer a holistic range of proven wellbeing techniques to your employees that helps build a personal toolkit they can use to navigate their work environment and personal life. When used daily, these practices support long‑term growth and create the conditions for individuals to thrive.
